10/27/04 - Picture Update (3) (4)
For some unknown reason, we had another week of delays, but the taping and mudding have finally begun. You can also see that our garage doors and electrical box have been installed as well. And when we visited yesterday, the stone crew was onsite to finish the back, chimney, and under the sofits. I'm also told our driveway will be poured this week as well.

10/12/04 - Picture Update (19)
After only two days of additional work, the rest of the drywall has been hung in the entire house. There are still some small areas that need to be covered, but not too many. Work has also begun on the outside corners with what is called drywall bead. (This is the white, rounded edge you see in some pictures)  The 2nd floor has been entirely "beaded" and approximately 60% of the 1st floor. Hopefully the crew will start to tape and mud upstairs while the bead is applied in the basement.

10/10/04 - Picture Update (10)
Days after my screw incident, I was back at the house, but much more careful when walking around. The 1st floor is almost completed and I'm hoping work will commence on the basement soon. For those curious about the turret ceiling, I've got pictures of the final drywall. Everything is shaping up nicely and we were just notified that our kitchen cabinets will be here the week of the 25th. Lets hope the drywall is taped and mudded by then.

10/07/04 - Site Update
Since the house is still a work in progress, and our current house sold, we had no choice but to pack up and move to an interim home. With the help of PODS, we were able to store all our stuff and it will be waiting for us when the new house is done. Here are some pictures from the move.

10/06/04 - Picture Update (16)
Was able to stop by the house today to check in on the drywall progress. After the ceilings are hung, the walls and trim work go next. From the pics, you can see that the 2nd floor is pretty much completed and most of the first too, especially some of the more challenging rounded areas. When we first designed the stairwell and barrel, our builder described a complex drywall process. However, the crew cheated and used bendable drywall. I'm guessing it made the task infinitely easier, and helps move the house closer to completion. On a personal note, I did a bonehead thing today and stepped on a screw. I'm ok now, but my foot will be sore for the next couple weeks.

10/05/04 - HUGE Picture Update (1) (5) (4) (6) (10) (8)
After a hectic week of moving, I've finally had the chance to update the site. A lot has happened in a week, mostly indoors, but one thing outdoors. The insulation has been completed throughout the entire house and drywall has been delivered and stocked. The drywall stocking process is an interesting one - 6 to 8 guys wait indoors as a huge fork crane hoists the drywall through a door or window. Once inside, the men carry the drywall to sections of the house, one for usage in that room, but also to balance the weight so none of the walls get knocked down. Some of the sheets are 20 feet long. To our surprise, the drywall crew arrived Friday to begin hanging, as our builder thought it would be Monday. Earlier in the week, the siding and sofit crew arrived to complete their portion. The sofits are the undersides of the roof that allow airflow. These needed to be installed so the stone crew can come back and finish their piece. The back siding was also completed.

Note: with the move taking us to Painesville, we're now 40 minutes from the homesite. This will mean more time between updates, but more pictures when an update occurs. Stay tuned for a move section too.

Enjoy your visit!
